Als kunstenaar-antropoloog verkent Kyra Sacks het tekenen als onderzoeksmethode. Ze observeert en tekent ‘daar buiten’ in de wereld, waar het leven zich ontvouwt. De bij Galerie Fleur & Wouter getoonde werken zijn geïnspireerd op haar veldschetsen en notities die ze gedurende het afgelopen jaar maakte tijdens projecten in Gambia, Chili, Oostenrijk, Bulgarije en Nederland. Een rode draad die deze verschillende plekken en verhalen verbindt is zowel de ervaring en het gevoel van ontheemding als de zoektocht en het verlangen naar thuis en geworteld zijn. In de tekeningen doorkruist Kyra de complexe realiteiten die ze onderweg tegenkomt, om ze tegelijkertijd in de intieme expositie ruimte samen te brengen in één verhaal.

As an artist-anthropologist, Kyra Sacks (NL, 1989) explores drawing as a method of inquiry in research. She observes and draws 'out there’ in the world, in the midst of reality. The works shown at the Gallery draw inspiration from her field sketches and notes which she gathered over the span of a year during projects in The Gambia, Chile, Austria, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands. A common thread weaving through the disparate settings and stories she studies is the experience and challenge of displacement, as well as the search for rootedness and a sense of belonging. In the drawings Kyra traverses the complex realities she encounters, whilst bringing them together as one story in the intimate exhibition space.
